For more than 75 years, BMD has been supplying lumber yards, dealers, home centers and hardware stores with the finest quality building products. They bring the materials, products, services, and expertise their customers need together under one roof across multiple nationwide brands.

The Challenge: Scaling up Last Mile Processes

For many years, they had relied upon an in-house, proprietary software for route optimization and capturing proof of delivery. But as they continued to grow their business and acquire new brands under their umbrella, they began to see that their existing solution wouldn’t scale. They needed a true technology partner who could understand their requirements and work with them to deploy a more scalable solution.

Specifically, they needed a partner who could help them streamline and digitize processes that had historically been done manually, like capturing proof of delivery at the jobsite. That’s where DispatchTrack came in.

The Solution: An End-to-End Last Mile Platform

By partnering with DispatchTrack, BMD got a SaaS platform that was built to increase efficiency and optimization at scale for building material suppliers. We worked closely with them during the implementation process to ensure that they had the features they needed to streamline their processes and delight their customers.  

Our solution offered:

  • Support for pallet scanning via bluetooth
  • Time-stamped, geostamped proof of delivery via digital pictures, signatures, and notes—all available in the cloud
  • Fast, accurate, scalable route optimization that could handle same-day and next-day deliveries
  • Configurable customer communications throughout the entire delivery lifecycle

Pallet scanning was an important requirement for BMD, and while DispatchTrack didn't offer that feature at the time, we worked closely with BMD to understand their requirements and build out functionality that would meet their needs and slot in with their existing workflows.

The Results: Reduced Cost-to-Ship, Improved Customer Experience

Once DispatchTrack was able to offer pallet scanning to BMD's specifications, BMD was able to improve order accuracy, speed up picking and loading, and decrease the amount of time spent at the delivery site. At the same time, they were able to reduce the total number of disputed payments and get paid for their deliveries more quickly thanks to DispatchTrack’s proof of delivery functionality. With the ability to instantly access pictures of completed orders and email them to customers, they’re even able to realize revenue on orders where they might not have gotten paid without photographic proof of delivery. 

Meanwhile, DispatchTrack also helped BMD to improve the delivery experience they offered customers by enabling drivers to reduce the time they spent at the job site—freeing up space for the next delivery so their customers could keep their timelines on track.
