How to Find the Best Delivery Management Software for 2025

Written by DispatchTrack | Jul 15, 2025

Raise your hand if you think that Capterra’s definition of delivery management software (“delivery management software is a tool that makes deliveries easier by connecting the vehicles and courier on the road to the back office”) is a little too narrow.

It’s not that delivery management software shouldn’t connect the vehicles undertaking your deliveries to the back office—it’s that so much more than that goes into managing deliveries: route optimization, customer experience, delivery tracking and visibility, proof of delivery, reporting and analytics, the list goes on and on. If your delivery management software doesn’t cover some of these needs, it had better be because those capabilities are covered by another piece of technology in your software stack.

When you consider the scope of effective delivery management—especially in an era with increased uncertainty around costs and market conditions—the importance of finding the right delivery management software is only amplified.

It can be tough to wade through all of the options to find one that’s actually pitched at the level of functionality you need to manage logistics costs and delight customers—but luckily we’re here to help. Here’s a rundown of some of the best delivery management software options for 2025, as well as actionable insights on how to choose the right one and get the most benefit out of it.

What Does the Best Delivery Management Software Offer?

In other words, when you’re looking for delivery management software, what exactly should you be looking for?

Obviously, this will be different for different use cases and industries, but broadly speaking there are a few essentials that will help ensure that your logistics operations run smoothly.

  • Optimization for the entire delivery management journey: Your software should enable you to plan, schedule, and optimize delivery routes in a way that works for your drivers, your customers, and your bottom line. Speed, accuracy, and integration are crucial.
  • Customer experience management: Effective deliveries aren’t just about ticking a box—they’re about delighting customers from the initial order to the final delivery and beyond. Your delivery management software should give you the tools to make that happen via automated notifications and alerts, customer delivery tracking and visibility, and even AI-powered customer experience agents embedded into the process.
  • Driver management and enablement: By offering a separate, full-featured mobile app for drivers, delivery management software can help you bridge the (potentially cavernous) gap between planning and execution. This includes providing turn-by-turn directions and direct messaging with dispatch, but it can also include more sophisticated features like AI-powered voice notes with contextual stop intelligence along each route.
  • Total delivery visibility and documentation: At the end of the implementation process, your delivery management software should put you in a position where your processes are standardized and you have total visibility into every arm of the delivery management process. This includes ensuring total delivery documentation via proof of delivery/proof of exchange (via pictures, signatures, and notes), as well as live tracking of deliveries that are in progress. Here, you can also leverage custom forms and compliance workflows—the goal being to quickly and accurately get the data you need about any given delivery at any given moment.
  • Support for connected logistics across the board: Logistics processes don’t start or stop with last mile delivery management—rather, each of the last mile functions we’ve discussed is part of a larger whole that needs to be connected to other processes. The best delivery management software will ensure connectivity and visibility between each touch point related to logistics within your operations.

Best Delivery Management Software: The Top 5 Contenders

Here are five delivery management software options to consider. Again, the best choice will depend significantly on your exact needs and how your current supply chain is administered.

Metrobi

Metrobi has high ratings on Capterra, GetApp, and Software Advice for its platform that boasts “route optimization, proof of delivery, live tracking, and many other features.” Metrobi’s business expanded rapidly in the early days of the pandemic, and they garnered funding off the back of that to try and establish themselves as a purpose-built delivery management solution for local food and beverage wholesalers.

Right now, they’re seemingly trying to compete on price. They offer plans starting at less than $3 per month per driver, which—as they point out on their website—is radically less than Routific, Onfleet, or Route4Me. They also boast integrations with Shopify and Wix, as well as other staples of the small business technology ecosystem.

Long story short, they have a strong reputation and significant funding—putting them in a strong position to address the needs of their target market: small, local food wholesalers.

For larger businesses with more complex distribution workflows, there may be better choices out there.

Shipday

Shipday is another highly rated option for delivery management software, and they’re targeting a similar market to Metrobi: “Fast and easy deliveries for local delivery companies. Deliver 30% faster with automated dispatching and real-time tracking.”=

They offer customer delivery tracking, live ETAs, driver management, scheduling, and surveys/feedback—but according to Capterra reviews the solution doesn’t offer particularly robust routing capabilities: one user complained that routes that had been generated couldn’t be edited easily, and another noted that there wasn’t presently a way to route with time window requests.

As such, businesses that have to perform scheduled deliveries (e.g. big and bulky retailers, building supplies distributors, food distributors, and many 3PLs) would most likely have to find some way to augment the routing capabilities Shipday offers. That said, as another software comparison put it, it’s a “good choice for micro-businesses and start-ups.”

Drivin

For any of our international readers—specifically those in Latin America—Drivin “is a robust, secure, and scalable SaaS TMS solution that redefines logistics operations for seamless delivery management.”

They offer:

  • Driver management
  • Delivery management
  • Dispatch management
  • Driver tracking

In the pros column, many reviewers mention that Drivin is easy to use and easy to configure, and that their support team is attentive and easy to reach.

On the downside, some users note that their routing capabilities can’t handle vehicle restrictions (e.g. height and weight limits for trucks), and that custom modules for functionality that’s not built in can be expensive.

Onfleet

Onfleet describes its software as “trusted last mile delivery platform for thousands of companies across dozens of industries including courier, food and beverage, retail, e-commerce, furniture, pharmacy and more.”

According to reviewers at G2, Onfleet’s best qualities are:

  • Ease of Use
  • Delivery Efficiency
  • Features
  • Easy Integrations
  • Efficiency Improvement

The top cons are listed as:

  • Limited Features
  • Missing Features
  • Routing Issues
  • Inefficient Routing
  • Insufficient Information

Obviously, these are picked from user reviews, so they can be useful guideposts for getting a sense of whether Onfleet will work for your business or not. It’s a highly-rated and well regarded option that appears to be quite easy to use—though based on what’s here, it may not be the top choice for businesses with more complex routing needs.
